Uploading the file to NexusMods recently, user Ashok has seen to it that the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 is given a bit of a tweak to some of the visuals to really make the game pop. Using assets from both this game and RE3 remake, the mod represents an overhaul that includes higher resolutions of more than 100 textures, saying that resolutions go from 1K up to 4K. In particular, images on the mod page show side-by-side comparisons between the vanilla game and the high-def version, showing greater clarity in things like signs and posters.

It might not sound like much, but it all goes towards improving the general look and feel of the game. There are, after all, a lot of ways for Resident Evil 2 to be modded and customized, something that is part and parcel when it comes to the PC gaming community. For anyone interested in improving their games, Ashok’s HD texture pack is certainly an interesting one, especially for fans who are keen on graphical fidelity, or just want to clean up some of the fuzzier aspects of the game.

The fact that both RE2 and RE3 now have VR mods shows that there is still so much potential in these remakes, and in the franchise as a whole. With a fan-remake of Resident Evil 4 on the way, an entry in the series which is considered one of the best, it’s never a better time to be an RE fan.

Throughout the industry’s history, Resident Evil has been considered one of the most influential horror series of all time, and it’s not hard to see why. While it continues to smash sales records with new releases, the earlier games act as influences that have helped shape the genre. It’s not surprising that there are so many people keen to mod the games in order to extend their longevity.

The Resident Evil 2 remake is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
